FAQ's

  • How are the groups set up?

Our groups are for anyone aged 18 and over who are at least 4 months past their loss. Whenever possible, we bring together people who have experienced similar types of loss—whether it’s a partner, a parent, or a beloved pet. The goal is to create a space where everyone feels understood and a sense of belonging can naturally grow.

At the moment, we offer in-person groups for those living in Metropolitan Melbourne. Sessions are currently held in the Balwyn/Kew area, though we are open to running support groups in other locations if there is enough interest.

We understand that not everyone feels ready to share their story in a group setting. If that is the case, we can explore individual counselling with you during your intake.

  • What happens during the group sessions?

Our groups offer a gentle, non-judgemental space to talk about your grief and receive support from others who truly get it. There is a basic structure to the six-week program, but we follow the needs and flow of the group—every session is shaped by what matters most to the people in the room.

The facilitator will gently guide conversations, encourage emotional expression, and introduce tools like mindfulness, breath work, and self-care practices to support healing.

By the end of the six weeks, you'll have a deeper understanding of your own grief and insight into others’ experiences, plus practical tools to help you find calm when emotions feel overwhelming.

  • When can I join a group?

Groups begin once individuals have completed the intake process and we have between 4 to 6 participants who are ready to begin. Once a group is confirmed, we’ll work together to choose a day and time that suits everyone. Once the group begins, it stays closed to new participants so everyone can feel safe and supported.

Each session runs for two hours, once a week, over six weeks. We ask that you commit to attending all six sessions—each one builds on the last, and your presence matters, both for your own journey and for the group as a whole.

  • How much does it cost?

Each two-hour session is $60, making the full six-week group $360.

To join one of our support groups, we begin with a friendly intake session over the phone. This gives us a chance to get to know you a little, understand your unique needs, and share more about how the group experience works. It is a meaningful first step to ensure you feel supported and that the group environment is a good fit for everyone.

The intake session is a one-time cost of $40 and is separate from the group fee.

Group work is a supportive and affordable way to receive specialised grief counselling. Full payment is required before the group starts.

  • Can I use Medicare or private health insurance?

Unfortunately, Medicare does not currently cover counselling services like ours (though there are ongoing efforts to change that). At this stage, our services are not covered by private health insurance either.
