Couples and relationship counselling

The therapy approach offered to couples is evidence based and avoids providing communication tips, scripts and behavioural activities to address the issues presented by couples. Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) applies a structured therapy process that focuses on the need for partners to be emotionally safe and connected. The therapy uncovers attachment needs and over time, enables couples to move into interactions where they can communicate their relationship needs and fears. A felt sense of connection is needed, especially when relationship security is threatened, and separation distress occurs when disconnection with a partner occurs.

When a partnership is failing, increasing conflict is not the cause. The cause is the decreasing affection and emotional responsiveness.

EFCT is not about fixing your partner, it’s about how finding how both of you reach for connection and what happens when that connection is threatened or lost.

 Support Groups

On May 21, 2026, ABC News reported that “a national survey of 10,000 parents found that almost 60 per cent are experiencing psychological distress impacting the quality of time they spend with their children.

Providing support to overwhelmed and struggling parents and carers is essential.

Expressions of Interest are being sought from schools in Boroondara municipality in Victoria.

Counselling4Loss is offering schools in Boroondara the opportunity to run parent and carer support groups on site at their school.

By being in a facilitated support group with peers, parents and carers may find the experience as helpful to them as individual counselling. For some people it may even be more effective, particularly when obtaining social support and understanding sadnesses, anxieties and/or losses are important goals for participants.

Counselling4Loss is seeking expressions of interest from School Wellbeing Coordinators who would like to offer a support group at their high school.
